My Top 6 Favorite Books of 2016

I know we're half way through January, but I've made this yearly round up a tradition on my blog. (Better late than never! 😁) Anyway, another year has passed and a collection of pages were flipped. Some books dug their way into my heart, and some books let me into a fun and emotional ride. The books I am about to mention are books that I read within 2016. They are not necessarily published in the year 2016. Also, this post is a mini review or just my general feelings and thoughts about each novel... Without further ado (in no particular order), here are my favorite books of 2016! (Whoa I said "2016" a lot. Oh and this is spoiler free!)

1. Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur
  • Milk and Honey is a collection of short poems by the talented Rupi Kaur. My copy of Milk and Honey is well-loved and heavily annotated. It is such a powerful and beautiful collection of short poems that really hits you like a ton of bricks. I found it very empowering too. It really tells the story of life, love, and loss. It is just so beautiful.
2. The Martian by Andy Weir
  • I have never read anything in the sci-fi genre until this one by Andy Weir! All I can say is this book was probably one of the funniest books I have ever read! If you've read this, or have seen the movie, you know what I mean. Actually no, if you've seen the movie, you didn't really get to experience Mark Watney's humor.
3. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
  • I dove into this novel without knowing what it is about. I never read the Grisha Trilogy so I was a bit confused about the terms, and the whole world of grishas in the beginning. But as the story progresses it becomes clear and oh my goodness it is such a crazy and fun adventure! If you're into fantasy and adventure I'm sure you'll enjoy this novel. It is told in third person, and every chapter is a different character's "pov". (Did that make sense? Lol I'm so terrible at describing and reviewing books) Here's a link to a better explanation of it: HERE. After you're done with Six of Crows, there is a second book called Crooked Kingdom! The adventure continues!
4. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
  • This novel was beautifully written oh my goodness. The time travel makes everything so mysterious and exciting. You know the beginning and how it ends but how they got to the ending is a beautiful, wonderful, and crazy story. If you haven't read it, I highly highly highly suggest that you do. Don't read anything more about it, just dive into it.
5. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
  • Here is another sci-fi novel that I absolutely loved! I mentioned this in my June 2016 favorites and I am going to quote myself (LOL)... "It was amazing! Very different from books I normally read. If you love the 80's I think you'll like it. Also, you don't have to be in to video games to enjoy this book. I'm not in to video games and I LOVED it. It was like a wild and fun rollercoaster ride!" ~ Monika from June 2016. 😉
6. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
  • Because I loved this book a lot, I wrote a separate blog post about it a few months ago. I will link it here: Me After Me Before You (A Book Review). There is a spoilers part in that one, just letting you know.
Here's to another year of flipping pages and amazing adventures! I am so excited to read new selections this year! What are your favorite books of 2016?
Also... What are you currently reading?
